Team EMC
Meeting Place:  Convention Center, outside the Registration Area.   The ride will depart from the Convention Center.
Team EMC Dresden

Both the leisure and performance tours will be entirely on paved bike paths. Knowledgeable local guides will lead each tour. There will be no need for participants to navigate on their own.

Good quality bikes can be rented from Rent-a-Bike, open from 9:00am to 5:00pm (but will be open earlier at 08:30 on Thursday July 28 for us to return our bikes). As the Team EMC bike tour begins at 7:00am, bikes will need to be rented the afternoon before and securely stored overnight. Check with your hotel about bike storage options. For security reasons, bikes should not be left outside overnight, even if locked.  Ensure you get a helmet, lock, water bottle and patch kit with your bike. Rent-a-Bike is located alongside the canal, under the Plaza Bridge East Arch, (Rideau Street at Colonel By Drive).

ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS

10 mile / 16 kilometer Route
16KM Ride
Starting alongside the Rideau Canal directly across Colonel By Drive from the Shaw Centre, the route follows the canal past Dow's Lake and Carleton University. We'll cross the canal by pushing our bikes over the Hartwell locks, and continue back to Dow's lake and pick up the new cycling path along the O train through Little Italy. We'll have to make a small detour around some construction; just follow the signs.

We'll join up with the bike path along the Ottawa River, turning right and cycling past the War Museum and the base of Parliament Hill. Finally, we'll cycle up a hill along the start of the Rideau Canal, with great views of several locks and the historic Chateau Laurier hotel. Continuing along the west side of the canal, we'll cross over at the pedestrian bridge and return on the east side to the Shaw Centre and Westin Hotel, and return the rented bikes at 8:30.

20 mile / 32 kilometer Route
32km Ride

This route will initially follow the same route as the 16km route. Starting alongside the Rideau Canal directly across Colonel By Drive from the Shaw Centre, the route follows the canal past Dow's Lake and Carleton University. We'll continue along the canal to Mooney's Bay and Hogsback Falls. Retracing our route for a short distance, we'll carry our bikes over the canal at the Hartwell locks, and continue back to Dow's lake and pick up the new cycling path along the O train through Little Italy. We'll have to make a small detour around some construction; just follow the signs.

We'll join up with the bike path along the Ottawa River, turning left to go west away from the downtown area past the Champlain bridge and making a stop at Westboro beach for a short  restroom and water break if needed. Retracing our route, we'll cross the Ottawa river on the Champlain bridge into the province of Québec, and cycle eastwards along the bike path towards Gatineau, with spectacular views of Parliament Hill and downtown Ottawa from across the river. We'll also cycle past the Museum of History, where the Tuesday night reception was held. Crossing the Ottawa river on the Alexandra Bridge (also known as the Interprovincial bridge), we'll continue along Sussex Drive and then turn right to descend down a short steep hill to the locks. Crossing the canal one more time by pushing our bikes over one of the locks, we'll cycle up a hill along the start of the Rideau Canal, with great views of several locks and the historic Chateau Laurier hotel. Continuing along the west side of the canal, we'll cross over at the pedestrian bridge and return on the east side to the Shaw Centre and Westin Hotel, and return the rented bikes.
