KEYNOTE PRESENTATION:Dr. Robert Scully
Electromagnetic Compatibility in 2016 and Beyond: What Is It and Why Do We Care?

Dr. Robert Scully, Lead EMC Engineer from NASA Johnson Space Center

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) has come a long way from the days when radio equipment was installed in military aircraft with exposed antenna leads and the need to control the undesirable effects of such an arrangement was recognized. Topics today are far greater in scope than a handful of individual and rather specialized or unique circumstances. The need for co-existence and interoperability of multiple systems competing for the same spectrum and the growing awareness of both unintentional and intentional electromagnetic interference are driving hardware, software, and system designers and managers to rethink how electromagnetic compatibility plays a central and pivotal role in successful products ranging from cell phones to smart refrigerators to automobiles to commercial and military aerospace platforms.

THE SPECIAL PROGRAM ON MILITARY EMC

Achieving electromagnetic compatibility with military equipment, systems, and platforms is a continuing challenge. Communication, radar, electronic warfare and other systems must operate in an increasingly congested and contested spectrum. Military EMC standards for design, test, and verification continue to evolve to ensure the operational effectiveness of military forces are not degraded by electromagnetic environmental effects.

This panel discussion will focus on current topics of interest related to military EMC standards, EMC challenges with military hardware, emerging military technologies and electromagnetic threats, etc.  A panel of subject matter experts will briefly outline their areas of expertise and provide comment on aspects of military EMC. Questions and comments from attendees will be welcome.

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF GLOBAL UNIVERSITY

2016 marks the 10th year of Global University. This dedicated track is targeted to those people who are relatively new to EMC and includes a well planned curriculum taught by world-renowned EMC instructors.  This year’s program features 12 presentations by faculty who teach EMC courses at universities in 6 countries.  Nowhere else can one receive this level of EMC education from instructors all over the world in one place at one time.  If you are new to EMC, or if you need to brush up on basic skills, this track is for you!  The course is scheduled for all day Monday and a half day on Thursday during the symposium week.  Please register early if this interests you, as attendance is limited to ensure interaction with the instructors.  CEUs and a Global University certificate are awarded to candidates who successfully complete this course.
